I am a child of Great Britain
where almost four million
still live under the poverty line
where Dunblane happens every four weeks*
but nobody notices (enough to shout)
swear on TV and the letters pour out!
I am a child of Great Britain
where love is something
you don’t admit to
talent an attribute best
kept hidden
(for fear of embarrassing the rest)
passion a weakness
that threatens us all
but I need a hug from you
whenever I can
I am a child of Great Britain
where we are taught it’s OK
to do evil if it means real jobs
besides if we don’t…
someone else will…
the official excuse for selling bullets to boys
who need bread pudding
and bedtime stories
I am a child of Great Britain
where almost four million
still live under the poverty line
where Dunblane happens every four weeks*
but nobody notices (enough to shout)
swear on TV and the letters pour out!
But I need a hug from you
whenever I can.
