Give us poets not afraid
to say unswervingly
the things we are most
afraid to hear.
Give us poets who avoid
the standard texts,
tired suggestions
of the great and the good.
Give us poets who write
in lines of passion
willing to bare
their genitals in church.
Give us poets who ignore
the culturally approved
whose images chase
a thin disguise.
Give us poets not afraid
to say unswervingly
the things we are most
afraid to hear.
