A Metaphor For Life

She finds herself out

In a cold drizzle

Beside herself lies an old

Umbrella she forgets to use

She makes a purchase –

Eggs, a cabbage and Nutella

Perishables that will keep

Longer than these self-promises

Still I will carry this poem

With me as we pass each other

In the market stall, our invisible

Hands aching to meet.
