Obama’s Inauguration

Obama’s inauguration became real

when Odetta smiled

a never surrender smile of regret;

her voice floating to the top the tree

as the song did shake us, threaten

to break us, her beauty did

speak of different things to us all.

she sang the pain of slavery and loss

and she bore this lesson on her breast,

elevating our minds

beyond our short historical attention span

lessons the dispossessed

never forget.

A dialectical site of poetry, painting and the odd musical excursion into the unknown.
