Islands

I’ve always wanted to make a recording that allowed the Spanish guitar to speak gently. Islands is in free time with spacious intervals and echo for the soul to lift and float away.

  1. A good friend who’s a sound engineer has shown me the recording “hot spots”, so I’ve decided to get to grips with the Shure microphones. It feels a more natural sound.

  2. Yes, I have a Shure … used to use a Senheiser, but it was a bit clinical, and now I’ve settled on a big old Neuman mic … and as you say, it’s not necessarily the mic, but how it’s set up. I think I only ever got that right one time. Certainly makes a difference. Of course …everything’s back in Australia in storage, but I do love recording. I always felt as if I could spend my entire life in a recording studio … love it.

  3. I love it too, there’s something undeniable special about switching on the mixing desk with the belief that music is healing and has always been in the domain of old-fashioned guitar playing.
